CO₂-optimized product development

We are pursuing a wide range of measures and developments aimed at avoiding and reducing emissions. We focus not only on reducing Scope 1 to Scope 3 emissions, but also on other potential savings. In the production of CO2-optimized lubricants, ZG employs three process technologies:

Our Process Technologies for the Production of CO₂-Optimized Lubricants

Gentle fission

In the “gentle separation” process, oil and water phases are separated, and deposits are removed and purified through filtration. The result is a clean product that is suitable for immediate reuse.

Refining

SÜDÖL GmbH, the recycling and refining specialist within the Zeller Gmelin Group, processes used lubricants and waste oils and returns them to the material cycle. Modern refining technologies produce high-quality base oils that offer a resource-efficient alternative to primary raw materials and actively promote the circular economy.

Biogenic

The manufacture of lubricants using biogenic raw materials represents an additional option for the production of CO₂-optimized lubricants. Biogenic raw materials offer potential for environmentally friendly development, particularly when recycling is not feasible. Examples include consumable lubricants such as stamping oils and corrosion inhibitors.

Areas of application

E-mobility

Electric mobility is the key to more sustainable and low-carbon transportation worldwide: The electrification of the powertrain gives rise to entirely new requirements, which in turn affect the properties and composition of our Lubricants. That is why we are already developing new lubricant solutions and coolants for batteries, fuel cells, electric motors, and power electronics.

Environmentally sensitive areas

They combine the ideas of ecology and
economy, are readily biodegradable (according to the OECD degradability test) and technically sophisticated.

  • Saw chain oils + tool cleaner
  • Hydraulic oils
  • Fats
  • Concrete release agent

Energy-efficient cleaning

Low temperature cleaners that reduce energy consumption and
the heat input in painting systems.

  • Process optimization
  • Saving energy and increasing efficiency while maintaining or improving quality
  • Reduction of the cleaning and process temperature

Developments in Printing Inks

Our printing inks are
highly reactive systems that, thanks to their formulation
, do not contain any volatile raw materials
. This offers both economic and
environmental benefits:

  • Mineral oil- and solvent-free printing ink systems
  • Deinkable and Recyclable Ink Systems
  • Energy-Efficient LED Ink Systems
  • ‘s compostable and low-migration Printing Inks for food packaging

Circular Economy

The circular economy concept is deeply rooted at Zeller+Gmelin. Through our subsidiary Südöl Recycling GmbH, used machine and engine oils are recycled and processed into new base oils and fuels.
